Verb endings
A verb normally expresses an action or state. HeiBen, Kommen and whohnen are
verbs you have met in this unit. The form of the verb that you find in a dictionary or
golssary is called the infinitive: wohnen (to live).
The infinitive can be divided into two parts: wohn- the stem and -en the ending.
The endings change according to the subject used (i.e. ich, du, Sie, etc).
For most verbs the endings you add are:
wohn-en komm-en heiB-en
icn -e wohne komme heiBe
du -st wohnst kommst heiBt (B doesn't need another s )
Sie -en wohnen kommen heiBen
